Hair Thinning
Widening part, receding hairline, or handfuls of hair falling out in the shower.
Biological Mechanism
Hair follicles are highly sensitive to the balance of estrogen and androgens (testosterone/DHT). While estrogen protects the hair follicle and prolongs the growth (anagen) phase, its decline allows androgens to miniaturize the follicle, leading to Female Pattern Hair Loss (Androgenetic Alopecia).
Common Misdiagnoses
Thyroid dysfunction, Telogen Effluvium (stress shedding)
Evidence-Based Treatments
- 01Topical Minoxidil
The gold standard for stimulating follicle blood flow.
- 02Anti-androgens (Spironolactone)
Blocks the effect of DHT on the follicle. HRT alone often isn't enough if genetics strongly favor thinning.
