Recurrent UTIs

Frequent urinary tract infections, or the constant feeling of one without a positive culture.

Biological Mechanism

The bladder trigone and urethra are dense with estrogen receptors. Estrogen maintains the acidic vaginal pH (via glycogen production fueling Lactobacilli) which prevents E. coli from migrating to the urethra. Without estrogen, pH rises, harmful bacteria colonize, and the urethral tissue thins, making it highly susceptible to infection.

Common Misdiagnoses

Interstitial cystitis, Poor hygiene, STI

Evidence-Based Treatments

  • 01Local vaginal estrogen

    Dramatically reduces recurring bacterial UTIs.

  • 02D-Mannose

Prevents E. coli adhesion to the bladder wall.
