Dry Skin
Skin becoming papery thin, intensely itchy, or stubbornly dry despite heavy moisturizers.
Biological Mechanism
Estrogen stimulates collagen production, hyaluronic acid synthesis, and sebum (oil) production. When estrogen drops, the skin literally loses its ability to hold water and its structural matrix breaks down. The intense itching (formication) feels like ants crawling under the skin.
Common Misdiagnoses
Eczema, Allergies, Scabies (if formication is severe)
Evidence-Based Treatments
- 01HRT
Maintains dermal thickness and hydration if started early.
- 02Ceramide-rich moisturizers
Necessary to repair the compromised skin barrier.
